Established in 1911, Tungchi Yu Lighthouse is located on a cliff on the northern tip of Dongjiyu, Penghu. Originally, it was a cast iron tower,then rebuilt in 1938 with reinforced concrete and painted with horizontal black and white bands. The location, known as the Black Ditch, is one of the most treacherous sea areas in Taiwan.
