Anping Lighthouse, originally established in 1872 as a 3-zhang-high beacon within Fort San Domingo, was reconstructed in 1891 as a square iron tower. In 1909, it was rebuilt again into a white, circular brick Western-style lighthouse situated atop Anping Old Fort.
However, due to the shifting sandbars and changes in the river course of Anping Harbor, the lighthouse gradually became farther from the coastline. Furthermore, coastal windbreak forests planted over time began to obscure the light, rendering the lighthouse ineffective. Consequently, it ceased operation in March 1960.
In 1965, the Customs Administration rebuilt the lighthouse as a square iron tower and relocated it to its current position on the beach outside the harbor, where it continues to serve as an important navigational aid.
