The workshop commenced with an insightful presentation by Specialist Lica Wang from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), who introduced the concept of “green shipping corridors.” Following this, Business Director Jane Yeh from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) provided a comprehensive overview of the global issues related to shipping decarbonization. Fang-Yi Lu, the Commercial manager & Chief Representative of the Taiwan branch of Lloyd’s Register Group Limited (LR), discussed the latest advancements in alternative fuels, highlighting the growing popularity of methanol and ammonia fuels, and elucidated the differences between these fuels and the challenges they face in their development. Finally, Marine General Manager Derek Chang from the Taiwan branch of Bureau Veritas(BV) in France shared valuable insights into the current state of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel industry chain, the prospects for European LNG import strategies, and the existing LNG facilities and global development models. The workshop witnessed lively and engaging discussions throughout the presentations.
Deputy Director General Pin-Chuan Chen of the MPB emphasized the pivotal role of international maritime conventions in shaping Taiwan’s shipping industry. Given the rapid transformations within the global industry landscape, grasping and preparing for international maritime trends is crucial for Taiwan’s shipping industry to meet international standards and enhance its international competitiveness. (To foster comprehensive insights into Taiwan’s future maritime development), the MPB extended invitations to representatives from various sectors, including industry, government, and academia. Their objective was to collectively analyze, discuss, and provide expert advice on the most current issues and trends in international shipping. This collaborative effort is intended to shed light on the path forward for Taiwan’s future maritime development. The MPB is committed to actively understand the latest dynamic trends of international maritime convention development and formulate countermeasures accordingly.
