The Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB) announced that the first Examination for Marine Personnel is scheduled to be held at Hwa Hsia University of Technology in New Taipei City and Cheng Shiu University in Kaohsiung City on March 2 and 3, 2024. In total, 858 examinees have registered to take the examination. Examinations for first class officers and second class engineers were held today. Out of 299 registered examinees, 264 attended the first session of the examination, yielding an attendance rate of 88.29%.
The number of examinees this year (858) increased by 10.4% from the previous year (777), highlighting the increasing appeal of a maritime career. To become a sailor is to pursue a dream and to make a courageous decision to confront the unknown and challenge one’s personal limits. The maritime world requires an individual to continually learn, grow, and explore the boundless sea and the integration of diverse cultures. Being a sailor is more than a job. It entails an exciting journey and the accumulation of life experiences characterized by challenges and growth. With the rapid development of the shipping industry, the MPB hopes to see more passionate and courageous people joining the MPB and setting sail toward the next bright chapter for seafarers!
Because the numbers of influenza and COVID-19 cases have been increasing recently in Taiwan, the MPB would like to remind all examinees to wear masks if they are having a fever or experiencing respiratory symptoms during the examination. The requirement serves to protect the health of all examinees and invigilators. Furthermore, examinees may not bring wearable devices or equipment with communication functions; otherwise, they would be violating regulations and incurring penalties.
The examination results are scheduled to be announced on March 29. The questions and answers will be posted on March 4 on MTNet, which is the MPB’s marine personnel examination system and single-window service platform (https://el.mtnet.gov.tw/EL03/EL030201). Examinees may verify their answers before March 6 by logging into the maritime personnel examination system and selecting the Question Clarification option in the Online Application section. The results of the clarification will also be published on MTNet for all examinees to view. MPB wishes all examinees success in the examination.
