In 2017, the MPB introduced the Maritime and Port Development Database to the public as a valuable resource for gathering extensive shipping and port information. According to Director General Hsieh-Lung Yeh of MPB, the database has been comprehensively revised in 2023, with an aim to provide users with brand new service experience and maritime and port business data with added value. This revision has been the result of 9 months of meticulous work, including expert interviews to understand user requirements, data collection, and system development. As a result, a wide range of maritime and port business data have been meticulously compiled and converted to user-friendly visual charts. The database now provides real-time information on both domestic and international shipping from a macro perspective for decision-makers or relevant organizations to stay updated on the latest trends of maritime and port activities in real time. This enhancement enables the MPB to offer the most comprehensive maritime and port development database in Taiwan.
Director General Yeh further added that the database was renamed “iMarine,” with the “i” denoting “intelligent” and “information,” and its pronunciation resembling the Mandarin word “ai (love).” He expressed his hope that iMarine would offer a comprehensive and user-friendly one-stop maritime and port information service and be loved by its users. iMarine boasts four main features: real-time monitoring of shipping trends, visualization of maritime and port business data, automation of data series integration, and facilitation of site-wide related searches. The MPB will continue to improve the functions of iMarine by optimizing real-time online reporting capabilities, broadening data sources, enhancing AI technology for behavioral pattern analysis, and providing customized membership services.
