In his speech, the Administrative Deputy Minister Chi highlighted the significance of Maritime One to the improvement of incident handling efficiency, development of offshore wind power, and demonstration of Taiwan’s indigenous national defense capacity. The surveillance equipment on Maritime One offers real-time, accurate, and relevant information on maritime incidents and maintains the order and safety of vessels in surrounding waters. In addition, the vessel is a product of collaboration among domestic organizations, with its high-tech surveillance functions developed through design and supervision by the Ship and Ocean Industries R&D Center, manufacturing by Jong Shyn Shipbuilding, and quality inspection by the CR Classification Society.
Director General Hsieh-lung Yeh of the MPB mentioned in his speech that the various features of the 300-tonne Maritime One contribute to the bureau’s smart maritime safety information platform, including high-tech smart maritime safety monitoring, satellite communications, camera surveillance, augmented reality devices, night view patrolling, and oil detection. These features facilitate real-time monitoring of vessels traveling in waters near the Greater Changhua Offshore Wind Farms; reporting of maritime anomalies, violations, or incidents; inspection of navigation aids as well as obstruction lights on wind turbines; and transmission of relevant surveillance images. When a maritime incident occurs, the surveillance and oil spill detection systems can help the response unit determine the optimal response measures and evaluate the oil spill situation. Where necessary, the vessel may serve as a temporary advance command center during maritime incidents to ensure efficient responses and commands and a safe, densely covered maritime transportation network.
In his speech, the Deputy General Manager Feng-Cheng Huang of Jong Shyn Shipbuilding noted that, under the government’s indigenous national defense policy, Jong Shyn Shipbuilding has delivered 37 vessels, and that Maritime One is the 45th vessel built indigenously in Taiwan through the collaborative efforts of domestic manufacturers. He believed that this vessel would improve the efficiency of disaster prevention and response measures in patrols for wind farm control, vessel surveillance, navigation aids, and wind turbines.
Maritime One is scheduled to be delivered in March 2024, after which the vessel will be deployed instantly for wind farm patrols. It will provide momentum to the continual advancement of marine conservation work, maritime safety efforts, and the wind power industry, safeguarding the maritime operations of Taiwan through smart navigation.
