To elevate the value of lighthouse tourism in recent years, the MPB, after having turned the Kaohsiung Lighthouse into the first nighttime scenic lighthouse in the nation last year, subsequently selected the Kaomei Lighthouse as a nighttime scenic lighthouse and plans to turn it into the first one in Taiwan that offers accommodations. Director-General Hsieh-Lung Yeh indicated that Kaomei Lighthouse is the only octagon lighthouse with horizontal interlacing white and red strips, and it is also the only lighthouse park with a successfully restored grass lawn. It is quite unique, and its adjacent location to Kaomei Wetland makes it highly valuable in terms of tourism. The MPB has completed its assessment that the lighthouse is suitable for providing accommodations and it will be remodeled first. Then, a contractor will run accommodations. The whole project began in February this year and will be completed in November. The invitation for contractor bids will take place concurrently. Once completed, guests can climb to the top of the lighthouse where they will have a panoramic view of the renowned sunset and the long coast line of Kaomei. They can also visit the adjacent Kaomei Wetland to enjoy a varied and rich travel experience.
Legislator Chiung-Ying Yang recalled that she was born and grew up here and the local developments were something that she deeply cared about. Kaomei Wetland is surrounded by enriched natural ecology resources. The current Kaomei Lighthouse Accommodations Project being promoted by the MPB features collaboration between the central government and the local one. Together they are improving the overall traffic routes. Mountain and coast lines are integrated to compose more romantic stories.
In addition, the MPB has evaluated the 21 lighthouses within its jurisdiction that will be open to the public. In the future, the MPB will plan new lighthouse-based travels covering multiple fronts, namely improved traffic, upgraded service, optimized facilities, and extensive marketing as well as travel highlights and creative itineraries, including Island Hopping JOMO, hiking, rail roaming, low-carbon light travel, and exploring on a bicycle, among others. The MPB hopes that revitalized lighthouse tourism in the future can combine neighboring sectors, tourism resources and sightseeing spots in order to make the best of the cluster effect, thereby turning them into an important spot that attracts tourists.
