Hualien Kan lighthouse is located at Huakang shan by Hualien port, and it was first built with Anping light post in 1910. However, the post height was only 10 meters, and the light was not bright enough to direct ships in the sea. In 1964, it was rebuilt into an iron frame tower and increased to current height. Because of the great location, the lamp size is smaller than in other lighthouses.
