Constructed in 1910, Hualien Kan Lighthouse is located on Huagang Mountain. It was originally a 10-meter-high iron made beacon relocated from Anping, but the height was too short and the light was too dim for offshore vessels to see clearly. In 1964, it was rebuilt using materials from the dismantled temporary Fukwei Chiao Lighthouse, increasing its height to the current 28.4 meters. Due to the excellent site, its lamp is significantly smaller than those used in other iron tower lighthouses.
