Chilung Tao lighthouse was established in 1980, located at top of the Chilung Tao, offshore of Chilung Harbor. It was an octagonal concrete lighthouse designed by Taiwanese, painted with black and white vertical bands, and it is the first lighthouse that used solar power. The station is 4,500 meters away from Chilung Harbor, and the natural reef scenic views were so spectacular that in 1992 the local government improved the facilities on the island to attract more tourists.
