Fugui Cape Lighthouse, was completed in 1897 and located in Shimen District, New Taipei City, was originally named Fukui Cape Lighthouse. Initially constructed as an octagonal iron tower, it was replaced with an octagonal concrete structure in 1962, painted in black and white horizontal stripes. As the northernmost lighthouse on Taiwan's main island, it was the second lighthouse built by the Japanese, intended to aid in laying submarine cables and ensuring maritime navigation. Due to frequent dense fog in fall and winter, a foghorn—the first of its kind in Taiwan—was installed.
