Kaohsiung Lighthouse, also known as the Cihou Lighthouse, is located atop Cihou Mountain in the Cijin District of Kaohsiung City. It was originally constructed in 1883 by British engineer John Reginald Harding. The lighthouse was built as a Western-style white square brick tower, with all equipment imported from the United Kingdom.
In 1916 Japanese colonial Period, the lighthouse was rebuilt adjacent to the original site to accommodate the expansion of Kaohsiung Port. The new structure was completed in 1918. The square building to the north of the current lighthouse marks the location of the original tower.
In 1985, the lighthouse was designated designated as a national heritage site, and in 1992, it was opened to the public.
Following a major renovation in 2022, Kaohsiung Lighthouse became the first lighthouse in Taiwan to open at night and to offer light meal.
